Detention System GRHS

GREEN RIVER - The detention system at Green River High School has received a make-over.  Dean of Students, Dennis Freeman, talked about changes and challenges at Tuesday (10/9/07) night's School Board meeting for School District number 2.  All In-School suspensions have been eliminated, so that there is no more lost instruction time.  In fact, the ISS room is currently empty.  The school now uses after school detention and before school detention.  Students can also get 2 for 1 credit for their time.  If they choose to help work on service projects while in detention, they get credit for twice the actual time spent in detention.  Over 100 hours have been spent on school service so far.  The Dean is also looking into the possibility of Saturday school some time in the future.  Freeman mentioned a number of challenges they are facing at the high school.  He said there is still an issue with attendance and they need to increase the speed and efficiency at which they respond to attendance issues.  There are also issues with the level of accuracy on the parent portal for I.C. and they want to make a safe learning environment even better.
