High Schools Losing too Many Students GREEN RIVER - Two state high schools are losing too many students. Rawlins High School and Wyoming Indian High School are both losing enough students between 9th and 12th grade to be classified as "dropout factories" in an analysis done by Johns Hopkins University. At Rawlins High School, the Class of 2006 had 140 students as freshman, but just 74 as seniors. In Ethete, the class of 2006 at Wyoming Indian shrank from 58 freshman to just 28 seniors. The Class of 2006 wasn't just a fluke for the two schools as numbers were similar for the classes of 2004 through 2006. Any rate lower than 60 percent classified schools as dropout factories in the study. Superintendent of Schools for Sweetwater County School District #2, Craig Sorensen, said that graduation rates at Green River are looking good...click here for Sorensen...Superintendent Sorensen notes that the numbers aren't exactly determined in the best way...click here for Sorensen...Above all, the superintendent wants the kids to get the education they deserve...click here for Sorensen. |
