Woman Attacked by Pit Bull

ROCK SPRINGS - A Rock Springs woman was mauled Monday (11/05/07) in a pit bull attack that killed her Dachschound, according to Sweetwater County Sherriff Rich Haskell.  Haskell said that Monday afternoon between 2.30pm and 3pm, 57 year-old Janet Nelson left her mobile home at the Western Hills Trailer Court west of Rock Springs with her Dachsound, Buddy, when they were attacked by three pit bulls belonging to Brenton and Deanann Knezovich.  Buddy was killed and Mrs. Nelson suffered serious injuries, to her right arm.  She was treated and released at Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County.  Deputies and a county animal control officer captured the three pit bulls, which were impounded and destroyed.  Tests for rabies are underway and results are expected soon.  Haskell said the Knezoviches were cited for animal running at large that has attacked a person.  Additional charges may be pending as the investigation into the attack continues.
