Wyoming Gun Lawsuit Attracting National Attention CHEYENNE - National groups on both sides of the gun control debate are training their sights on Wyoming. The state is fighting the federal government in court to uphold a state law that allows people convicted of misdemeanor domestic violence to regain their right to own guns. The state and gun-rights supporters argue that federal officials can't dictate to states who may have a gun. But gun control advocates and others criticize the state law. The law lets people convicted of domestic violence ask to expunge their records and get firearms. Critics say the law increases the danger for the victims, who are often women in abusive relationships. The state is pressing an appeal in federal court in Denver of a federal judge's decision earlier this year. The judge ruled that the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives was correct to reject the state law. |
