Latest on Fontanelle Fire

Today's strategy for the Fontenelle Fire has Hotshot crews and dozers again concentrating on the portion of the fire north of the Middle Piney Road. Firefighters will continue holding and building a line on the east side of the fire's perimeter. Mop-up operations will continue as crews extinguish remaining hot spots. There are still more than 800 personnel on the fire. Rains were a welcome sight for crews on Thursday, and the fire showed no increase in number of acres burned. Firefighters at the scene reported getting as much as 0.1" of rain. Fire managers, however, emphasized that yesterday's rainfall was not significant enough to change the condition of dry fuels on the ground. The possibility still exists that the warmer weather and drier conditions expected next week could breath new life back into the fire.
