The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) High Desert District (HDD) is warning the public that the fire danger rating for southern Wyoming is high and urges extreme caution for those recreating on public lands.
A fire alarm sounded around 3pm Saturday afternoon Over 100 people were evacuated from the mall as the alarms rang and fire trucks rushed to the scene. Customers were soon allowed back into the building, and the pumper trucks were packed up to headed back to the fire station. Rock Springs Fire Department Captain Ron Atkins explained that one of the exterior lights outside of JC Penny burnt up causing the alarms to go out throughout the building. The damage was minimal as was the danger, but Captain Atkins said the temporary evacuation was still necessary.
