City Council Meeting

The Green River City Council met once again this week, and it was  a meeting chalk full of proclamations.  October was proclaimed National Disability Employment Awareness month  by Mayor Hank Castillon.  In partnership with many Wyoming businesses and organizations, the programs purpose is to make citizens with disabilities aware of their rights in the work place.

The month of October will also be a reminder for the Domestic Violence Awareness program. The YWCA of Sweetwater County spearheaded the movement, and was present at the meeting. Acts of domestic violence occur every 18 seconds in the United States and are a primary cause of injury to women.

The week of 9th -15th was dubbed Fire Prevention Week in remembrance of the Great Chicago Fire in 1871. The Fire killed more than 250 people and left 100,000 homeless. Fire Chief Mike Kennedy was on hand for the ceremony with the Mayor.

And last but not least, this week has been proclaimed National 4-H week.

The City Council was also reminded of this weekend’s festivities in downtown Green River. The Fourth Annual Trunk or Treat takes place October 8th from 12:00- 4:00. A pumpkin patch, pumpkin carving and costume contests, and “treating” will be available for children throughout the day.
