GRHS Pool Project Facing Opposition

The proposed GRHS Pool project may be walking the plank when it comes to being included on the list of items potentially paid for by the 6th penny tax. The proposed $11 million dollar project has had considerable support from the City of Green River, and remains on their short list of proposals for the 6th penny tax. The project has met some resistance outside of the county, Assistant Superintendent Jaime Christensen summed it up for the board saying if the pool project stood alone on the ballot, it would be a “death sentence”. Despite the probable failure of paying for the project with 6th penny funds, the board has already begun looking into paying for the project itself through bonds. With a total cost around ---- 12,000,018 paid off in around 8 years.

School District #2 has accomplished something few others have when it comes to high school students in need of attending Summer School....they've cut the number in half. Assistant Principal Darren Howard explained they currently had 35 summer school students down from the 60-70 they normally have. Howard attributed the decrease to programs aimed at catching students who need help earlier in the school year.
